Yakub Memon’s defence league will send a wrong signal to other terrorists

They always take a 180 degrees turn to the decisions taken by the current government and form a contrarian view even if it against the nation. This Yakub Memon’s defense league (YMDL) at the centre of the highly incestuous media discourses in India is just to create a propaganda.

Eminent personalities, senior journalists and few Bollywood liberals jumped into the defense of Yakub Memon and gave their views via articles, blogs, tweets and TV debates. They expressed their support directly and indirectly to the deadly terrorist Yakub Memon by comparing his hanging with other past attacks and riots that had occurred in India.

Some of them went ahead to support the deadly terrorist and compare his actions with religion and came up with the analogy “My terrorist and your terrorist”. Some of them even made statements eulogising this deadly terrorist. Why is Yakub Memon a deadly terrorist? Because the man who didn’t flinch even for a moment to envisage the repercussions of his involvement in the 1993 Bombay bomb blast which killed 257 people, such a person is truly a deadly terrorist. Even “deadly” word would be insufficient to describe him.

Why they were against the hanging of Yakub? Reading their articles and tweets, my perception is one of apprehension. They always take a 180 degrees turn to the decisions taken by the current government and form a contrarian view even if it against the nation. This Yakub Memon’s defense league (YMDL) at the centre of the highly incestuous media discourses in India is just to create a propaganda. They will go to any length to justify their views by comparing it with similar unfortunate events in the past at the cost of national security. Why do they have such propensity for the terrorist? Vote bank? Or it is in their DNA to create propaganda for every issue to earn their bread and butter?

Spare a moment and just think about those Army jawans, Police officers who are sacrificing their comfort zone 24/7 and 365 days and putting their lives in danger to protect us. This extraordinary YMDL league will definitely do the moral hampering of our jawans and moral bolstering of other terrorists’ organizations. These terror groups would think that it is an ‘open sale’ in India to attack or commit any crime without the fear of severe punishment and definitely moral emboldening from the extraordinary YMDL league.

SP Baljit Singh was killed in a terrorist attack in Gurdaspur. Not a single view about his funeral came from the YMDL folks. But Yakub Memon’s funeral became the talk of the nation. Maybe just for the sake of formality, some of the leading newspapers gave a minuscule inch of their paper to the funeral of former President APJ Abdul Kalam and Yakub’s funeral took all the limelight. Their articles and priorities regarding news lead to questions on ideas and assumptions that suck India into isolationism, teach moral relativism that precludes Indians among a conception of what is good. These propagandas alone are sufficiently disquieting in a country of extraordinary religious and cultural diversity. Somewhere these propagandas are enough to create the base for the next ‘Yakub Memon’.

An IPS office Abhinav Kumar wrote how he got frustrated with this YMDL. Read here.

So what will we do if our Jawans catch a terrorist? ‘We will not hang him and but will give him life sentence.’ (of course after following the legal procedure). If his behavior remains good throughout his captivity we will release him. So instead of showing some spine against the terrorism we must sympathize with him and MUST forget that his involvement in the killing of 257 innocent people; right? This is what eminent personalities of YMDL league want from the government and the Supreme Court of India.

We must stand together and support the law and the government to eradicate terrorism and to curb the riots. If we don’t support the law but follow recalcitrant YMDL ideology it would send a wrong signal to other terrorists that it is ‘an Open Sale’ in India to commit any crime anytime.
